Competency Test
for Assistant Business Development Candidates
General Instructions
This task is designed to test thinking framework, attention to detail, and basic spreadsheet skills you. We do not expect executive-level strategic answers, but rather want to see how you organize information, use simple formulas, and create systematic administrative steps to lighten the team's workload.
Please complete the three tasks below. Ensure each answer is neatly organized, using clear headers and easy-to-follow logic, and upload your work to the form provided at the end of this test
Task 1: Vendor Research & Comparative Analysis
Focus: Spreadsheet Usage & Selection Logic
Context:
You are asked to assist your supervisor in finding options for a venue for a small business event. You have gathered raw data from 5 potential vendors that includes: Vendor Name, Rental Price, Maximum Capacity, Included Facilities, and Distance from Downtown.
Work Instructions:
Create a table in your Excel or PDF file that contains:
- Comparison Table: Organize the raw data into a structured table with clear columns.
- Calculation Columns: Add at least 2 calculation or assessment columns your own (example: "Cost Estimate per Person" if at full capacity, or "Facility Score" on a scale of 1-5). Must use spreadsheet formulas for this column (do not manually type the calculated numbers).
- Recommendation: At the bottom of the table, select 1 top vendor and write down 3 brief data-based reasons why that vendor is worth choosing (for example: best value for money, most strategic location, or most complete facilities).
Assessment Objective:
To test your ability to organize random data, use basic spreadsheet formulas, and present logical conclusions that are easy for superiors to understand for decision-making.
Task 2: Prospect Data Validation & Phone Script Preparation
Focus: Data Discipline & Communication Framework
Context:
The acquisition team provides a list of 10 new prospects collected from an event, but the data is messy (for example: there are incomplete phone numbers, unclear company names, and ambiguous interest statuses). This data needs to be entered into the CRM system (like Odoo) so that the acquisition pipeline remains accurate and actionable.
Work Instructions:
Create a document (in the same file) that contains:
- Data Cleaning Simulation: Create a simulation table of how you will tidy up the data in the CRM. Show the "Validation Status" column (for example: "Needs Call", "Incomplete Data", "Ready for Follow-up") and explain how you handle rows with missing or invalid data.
- Validation Script: Create a list of brief question points (maximum 5 points) that you will use when making phone calls (telecalling) to the prospect. The goal is to validate the empty data and measure their level of interest professionally.
Assessment Objective:
Testing your attention to detail, understanding the importance of a clean pipeline, and your ability to construct an efficient phone communication framework.
Task 3: Simple Post-Event Cost Recap
Focus: Administration & Cost Control Logic
Context:
An internal event has just concluded. You have been given the following list of random expenses:
- Catering: Rp 5,000,000
- Sound Rental: Rp 2,000,000
- Banner Printing: Rp 500,000
- Transportation: Rp 1,000,000
The total initial budget set for this event is Rp 10,000,000. However, you find out that the catering bill exceeds the initial estimate by 10% (so the actual catering cost is Rp 5,500,000).
Work Instructions:
Create a section in your file that contains:
- Variance Table: Create a recap table "Budget vs. Actual Costs". The table should have columns: "Cost Item", "Initial Budget", "Actual", "Variance", and "Budget Utilization Percentage". Make sure the totals are calculated correctly using spreadsheet formulas.
- Administrative Actions: Write a short paragraph (maximum 100-150 words) that explains the concrete steps you will take to clarify the cost overrun (cost overrun) to the vendor, as well as how you will document it to prevent cost leakage in the future (for example: update SOP or check contracts).
Assessment Objective:
Testing basic analysis skills of variance in spreadsheets, as well as your thought framework in handling cost deviations in a professional, orderly manner, and focused on preventing recurring issues.
